24: Season 7 first thoughts January 13, 2009 at 12:01 am
Spoiler alert for those who haven’t seen 8am-noon of Day 7 of 24 (e.g. the first four episodes).
(Follow me after the jump for my thoughts.)
Let me first say that since discovering 24 this past summer I burned through seasons (“Days”) 1-6 throughout the fall and over Christmas break and absolutely love the show (I finished watching Season 6 and watched 24: Redemption this past Friday, just in time for the premiere of Season 7. But I don’t think it’s ever been very strong on politics, and that thought has just been strengthen by the way the writers are handling the storylines in the White House so far this day. Seriously, what first female president would be this weak, and what first First Gentleman would be this stupid (ditching his Secret Service guard, even though the agent is probably dirty and even though nothing came of it, and then going and standing by a river when you’re the First Gentleman shows a level of stupidity that I just don’t think anyone in that position would or could have…not to mention the fact that his Secret Service agent would never be so willing to leave his side, I’m pretty sure the agent could be fired if not put in jail for doing such a thing) and what White House Chief of Stuff would be this naive? I think the plots are cool (it takes a lot of guts to murder the son of the president and I’m eagerly looking forward to seeing how the whole thing unravels, plus the thing with the Sangala war is neat) but the way the people are acting I think is not so true to life.
I was happy to see Bill and Chloe return in the 10am hour. Now all of my favorite CTU agents are back (who are still alive, that is: I miss Michelle and to some degree the Palmers and Milo) save for Nadia Yessir from Day 6. I’m curious to know what happened to Karen Hayes, since it doesn’t seem that she an Bill are together anymore (ah, perhaps I speak to soon say that though, as Wikipedia tells us that she’s a “Special Guest Star” on Day 7, so it looks like she’ll yet show up), plus I want to know if Chloe had that baby she was pregnant with in Day 6 and if so where it is, but for the most part I’m just happy to see the core CTU “family” back together: Jack, Tony (assuming he is actually good…), Bill and Chloe with Wikipedia promising us the return of some other people we know from former days, such as Karen, Kim Bauer, Morris (still Chloe’s boyfriend I assume?) and Aaron Pierce (who, as far as I can tell and Wikipedia backs me up on this, is the only person besides Jack to have been in every single day/season of 24 thus far…I’m glad he’s going to be returning in this season as well, he never plays a huge role but I love his character).
In terms of the new cast, I don’t much like any of them save for FBI Agent Janis Gold wonderfully played by the talented Janeane Garofalo. She seems enough like Chloe (sarcastic and somewhat nervous female computer geek working for a government agency) for us (or at least me) to immediately like the her, but when it really comes down to it she’s her completely own character. She’s cool. I’m glad to see on IMDB that she’s supposed to appear in all 24 episodes, meaning she probably won’t die mid-day, which makes me happy.
Anyway. Those are my rather long-winded thoughts on 24: Day 7 so far.
What do you think? Like it, dislike it? Have no opinion? Wish I would go back to giving you the latest death toll in Gaza and stop going on about stupid TV shows?
Cheers.
